Updates
Dear readers,
I had a very perky intro written out about how autumn is starting and I’m bringing lots of creative energy into soup season🍂. But if you’re reading this on the release date, you might notice the September issue is a wee bit late ….. to tell you the truth, the impostor syndrome and inner critic have been alive and well, and I almost completely abandoned this month’s zine all together.
Drawing portraits is something that’s daunted me my entire creative career, but that’s exactly why I came up with the portrait aspect of the Andy the Ant 🐜 series in the first place, so I could explore building a new skill in a way that holds me accountable to the people who are the most supportive of my work.
Sending out a big thank you to everyone who has supported my artistic journey so far. Wishing you love and cosiness as the days get shorter and colder. 🧡
And without any further delay, I hope you enjoy the 2025 portrait edition of my New Zine Letter!🖼️
Xoxo Sierra 🤗
Color Theory
I’ve been working my way throug Josef Albers’ book Interaction of Color. It has practical exercises to learn color thory. This is a gap in my knowledge as an artist and something I’ve been getty by on instinct so it’s been both fun and frustrating to go back to basics. Below is an example of the first experiemnt. I posted a couple more examples on my Tik tok.

The Portraits
For a little bit of background I have a recurring segment in my Zines where I draw Andy the Ant (a character my dad used to tell me stories about as a kid) in a new location every month I’ve promised the first person to correctly guess where Andy is will have their portrait drawn in a New Zine Letter! The theme this year if you havent guessed is libraries. Its been a pretty wild year for me in terms of traveling so the locations have spanned many corners of the globe! Shoutout to my mom and my sister-in-law who guessed two of the locations correctly!

Where in the World is Andy The Ant?
Can you guess where Andy is this month? Last month he was at the Dok Library in Delft! Email me (sierraflanaganart@gmail.com), DM or text me to submit your guess!
